The study from GlobalWebIndex (GWI) found that Facebook was still used by 48.5 per cent of 16-19 year olds on a monthly basis. According to the research, the site has 67 per cent more active teen users than YouTube. The report, the ‘Social Q4 2013′ study interviewed 170,000 social media users in 32 countries; an 89 per cent representative of the global internet population.

Commenting on the report, Tom Smith, CEO of GWI, commented:young people Facebook customer service Teenagers still using Facebook, claims new report

“We’ve been able to show that Facebook is still used by 48.5 per cent of 16 to 19 year olds globally on a monthly basis, with 67 per cent more active teen users than the nearest competitor, YouTube, with 29 per cent.

Our study shows that reports of the death of Facebook have been greatly exaggerated.”

Away from Facebook, the report also highlighted the continuing audience increase of Peer-to-peer social networking, with apps like SnapChat and WhatsApp enjoying double-digit growth in membership. WhatsApp grew by 35 per cent, while SnapChat increased its audience by 54 per cent between Q2 and Q4 of 2013. The growth in these P2P networks confirms findings reported on the numero blog earlier this month.

In a wider context, the report demonstrates the continuing evolution of the digital communications landscape. It also highlights the need for businesses to continually monitor the appropriateness of the digital channels being offered to consumers.
