This April, numero was delighted to announce its sponsorship of PGA golfer Jamie Donaldson, a deal that would see the professional bear the numero logo across several continents in his quest for glory. On reflection, Jamie had an outstanding 2012, including top ten finishes in a number of major championships and victory in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Speaking at the time, numero CEO Guy Colclough said that Jamie was the perfect match for the company, stating that ‘we wanted to mark the completion of our most successful year to date with something special; like Jamie numero is now respected internationally.’
The year started strongly for Jamie as he won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Gold Championship. Top 20 finishes followed in the Volvo World Match Play Championship and Nordea Masters and his form was recognised with a place on the Great Britain and Ireland team in the Seve Trophy tournament.

Later in the year, strong performances in the U.S Open and the Open Championship paved the way for a top-10 placement in the Portugal Masters and the WGC – HSBC Championship. Competing in the WGC-HSBC Championship in Shandhai, Donaldson emerged as a top contender for the title, sharing second place with Spain’s Gonzalo Fdez-Castano. Speaking about his performance in the competition, Jamie said:
“I played pretty solid and tried to stay really patient,” Donaldson stated in an interview, reflecting on the strong opening round. “It’s a tough course. There are so many difficult holes out there.”
Meanwhile, Jamie earned a sixth-place finish in the Portugal Masters, winning €65,000 in prize money after putting in a solid performance across the tournament. Indeed, Jamie finished the first-day’s place in first place and, although Seve Trophy teammate David Lynn eventually stole past Donaldson to win the title, the contest put the numero-sponsored golfer in a strong position for the remainder of the year.
There were greater things to come for Jamie.

Jamie finishes the year on a high
In November, Jamie achieved a stunning finish in the Turkish Airlines Open, coming second place in one of the strongest fields in professional golf. Donaldson bested both Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter, with five birdies and a hole in one in the final back nine securing his second-place position. At the time, numero CEO Guy Colclough commented that it was, ‘simply brilliant by the man from Macclesfield as he put in another world class performance’
Donaldson followed this outstanding performance with another top-ten finish in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Overall, Jamie ends 2013 in fifth place in the Europe Order of Merit (The Race to Dubai) and 32nd in the World Golf Rankings.
