A stunning finish to the Turkish Airlines Open – featuring one of the strongest fields in professional golf – earned Jamie Donaldson second place and a cheque for over 600,000 euros. As a consequence, the numero sponsored European Tour player climbed to fifth place in the European Order of Merit (The Race to Dubai) and 32 in the World Golf Rankings. Jamie’s winnings for the season now stand at 1.8 million euros – the best in his career – which suggests that the numero logo on the sleeve of his on-course clothing has proved a good luck charm in 2013.
The Turkish Airlines Open is one of four events on the Race to Dubai Final Series which attracts top international players including Tiger Woods, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose. In fact, many of these leading lights in the game were battling for the title in Turkey with the lead changing hands throughout an action packed last day. Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter appeared to have the best chance of taking the title but, Jamie had five birdies and a hole in one in the final back nine which pushed him ahead of the chasing pack to second place on his own. A six foot eagle putt on the last hole just missed which resulted in victory for Victor Dubisson from France.
Jamie’s hole-in-one on the sixteenth reminded the numero team of a similar feat at the 2013 Masters when this remarkably talented golfer became only the fifth person in history to complete the sixth hole at Augusta in a single shot. This, and other tales from his debut at The Masters, was recounted by Jamie at the numero golf day this summer in which our customers, colleagues and associates had the opportunity to play golf with him, take part in a golf clinic and put forward questions at the evening dinner. The result from the Turkish Airlines Open looks certain to secure Jamie an invitation for the 2014 event as his management team, Georgia Golf, commented:
“Jamie has real a chance to win the Race to Dubai at the Earth Course on Jumeriah Golf Estates, starting next Thursday in Dubai. His world ranking will also move north substantially thus securing another Masters appearance in 2014. Simply brilliant by the man from Macclesfield as he put in another world class performance.”
As always, the numero team will continue to follow Jamie closely at the season’s closing event. Guy Colclough, the numero CEO, may have the opportunity to join Jamie in Dubai. In fact, there has been a great deal of international travel for our people in 2013 as our customer experience solutions roll-out, which is a matter of great importance to Guy and the numero team:
“Our decision to sponsor Jamie was partly driven by our growth internationally, with the design, implementation and support of solutions that enable extraordinary customer experiences in many industry sectors including retail, telco, utilities, public services and logistics. It has been a great honour to see Jamie carry the numero logo around the world while playing such fantastic golf”.
